Paul has made the assertion that ALL humanity is justly condemned before God. Whether their lives were characterized by sin, whether they strived to do good (but still sinned), or whether they were the very covenant people of God who were striving to keep God’s law (but falling short) – ALL people, Jew and Gentile alike, are under sin and therefore will not stand in the judgment. On what basis, then, can condemned sinners be saved? How does God retain his just character while remaining faithful to his covenant?
